Independence Day in the United States is
celebrated every year on July 4th, the day
the Declaration of Independence was signed by the Second Continental
Congress in 1776. Although there were scattered celebrations here and
there in the U.S. after 1776, widespread observance wasn't common until
after the War of 1812.
Today, it's the biggest secular
holiday in the U.S., with practically everyone participating in some sort
of observance, whether it's a cookout where everyone stuffs themselves,
or watching a fireworks show. Our family celebrates at a cabin on
a lake, where there's always lots of good food and a spectacular
fireworks show on the lake to watch.
What does your family do for July
4th? Do you get together with friends and have a cookout, just hang out
