Pet Vet 3D
Animal Hospital is an animal care simulation. You are a veterinarian, and it’s
your job to take care of the animals that are brought in for treatment. This
is accomplished by accepting the patient, using instruments to diagnose the
problem, and then taking care of the animal. In the meantime, it’s important
to get plenty of sleep and to eat regularly. The animals that are boarding
will need food and other care, as well. There are rabbits, dogs, cats, pigs
and horses. The resident mare can even be ridden! And, there is a cute foal.
The game
begins with a choice for free-play or a scenario mode. The scenario mode
begins with a tutorial, or players can move ahead to the first scenario.
Subsequent scenarios are unlocked by successfully completing the current
scenario. The beginning scenario requires treatment of 10 rabbits, and an
educational certificate for rabbit care. Certificates are earned by purchasing
and reading books, five for each animal.
In order to
properly diagnose the animals, players will need to purchase medical
instruments. They will also need to purchase animal enclosures, food, toys and
other items to help care for the animals. Most of the items can be upgraded
for a fee. To keep the animals healthy and happy, they will need to be fed,
cleaned and played with on a regular basis.
To keep up
with what the animals require, there are plenty of simple menus available at a
single click. The animals will also show icons floating above them if their
need is becoming critical. It’s very simple to see what they want, and then to
administer the needed service. This is the type of interface I love to see in
a children’s game. Three difficulty levels are provided, another plus for
kids.
The game
starts with just one type of animal, and then will progress to other species.
To gain another type of animal, players will need to become proficient in
skills like education, playing with the animals, showing them affection and
cleaning their pens. Once these skills are increased, then players can treat
other species.
The game
looks really cute, but is a little too pink. Boys can be vets, too! Everything
looks a bit like the Sims. Overall, the animation is good, but the animation
while treating pets doesn’t show the actual instruments, which is
disconcerting. The vet doesn’t have anything in her hands while going over the
animal. This is true when she eats, as well.
We like this
game, and are having fun with it. There’s plenty to do, and taking care of
animals is always fun. Girls and boys alike will enjoy Pet Vet 3D.
Gameplay: 8.0
There’s quite a
bit to do, and while involving, the easy menus and simple interface keep
everything running smoothly. Kids will be kept busy, but not frustrated. A few
more “beauty care” items would have been fun, but what is here is sufficient
for a long time.
Graphics: 7.0
The graphics are
good, but the animation could have been more detailed during patient care.
Sound: 7.0
The music is all
right, but a bit on the loud side. The kids will like it, though.
Difficulty: Medium
The difficulty
level ranges from easy to not so easy.
Concept: 6.0
There isn’t
anything new, but the presentation is good.
Overall: 7.8
This game
compares nicely with other budget simulation games, and is targeted directly
toward children. The content is varied, and the interface is well-designed.
The animations could have been better designed in the animal treatment area,
and more animal care items for beautification purposes would have been cool,
but what is here is fun.
