Barbie Mermaid Adventure

It's party time under the sea with Barbie Mermaid and her ocean friends, but the magic shell that's needed to choreograph the show has lost its light. They'll need to find three rainbow dolphins in order to light the shell again, and also hand out invitations to musicians and collect decorations for the celebration.

There are three areas that Barbie will search for the dolphins, and each contains two games to play, plus jeweled shells to collect and musicians to invite to the celebration. Of the games, one in each area is a maze that is similar in format to the mazes in the other areas, and the other games are a pong-like game, a matching game and a logic game. These games are simple arcade games for the most part that have been done many times before in children's games, but these are cuter than most. The matching game features charmingly drawn fish in a fish school that must be matched with their free swimming counterparts. The logic game involves moving Barbie around a group of baby cuddlefish and quieting their crying. As she passes, the crying ones stop crying, and the sleeping babies wake up and start crying again. The pong game is just a game of pong.

Collecting the jewels is super easy, Barbie just needs to swim over them. These can be used to decorate the stage area and Barbie herself in the celebration area after all the rainbow dolphins are found by playing the games successfully. The games can be played over again at any time after completion. The music can be simply orchestrated with a choice of three different types of songs, with players choosing the order of the musicians. After decorating Barbie, she can be printed.

This is a cute game with great looking visuals that young children will enjoy playing. However, the playtime may be short overall in duration, as there isn't much substance to hold even a preschooler's attention for very long. In essence, there are only four games to play as the maze games in each section are the same, and while some of the games increase slightly in overall difficulty, they don't increase enough to make much of a difference after playing awhile. Having difficulty levels would have helped. Best for three and four year olds.

Gameplay: 7
The games are fun to play and designed fairly well, but there just isn't enough variety here to hold attention for very long.

Graphics: 8.5
The graphics are very good quality and really enhance the game with the bright colors and crisp details.

Sound: 7
The sound and music is adequate, but nothing to catch the attention.

Difficulty: Easy
This game is easy even for a three year old.

Concept: 6
Matching, pong and mazes, we've seen them a million times. The presentation is good, though, especially in the graphics department.

Overall: 7.3
A decent collection of simple arcade games for children with a cute Barbie decoration theme, but not enough depth to hold children's attention for very long.
