I just love fairy tales
I just love fairy tales! Don't you? The world you
are about to enter is a wondrous fairy tale land that lies far, far away, on the
other side of the world's largest rainbow! Within this magical fairy tale land,
in two neighboring kingdoms, lived the beautiful Princess Barbie and the
handsome Prince Ken!
As children they were inseparable; and as they
grew older, their love grew stronger and stronger until both knew that they
would be married someday. There came a day when Prince Ken had to sail away on a
long journey. While he was gone, Princess Barbie dreamed of her true love and
the day they would marry. She could hardly wait for the day Prince Ken would
return!
And so our story begins! A magical Butterfly
Fairy visits Princess Barbie and tells her that Prince Ken is on his way home
and it is time to prepare for their wedding day! Oh, my! There is so much to do
before he arrives and where should the Princess begin? The Butterfly Fairy gives
a Magic Mirror to the Princess and tells her the mirror will help guide her
through the wedding preparations so she will be ready on time!
The magic mirror is surrounded with magnificent
jewels. Each jewel represents an activity that must be done before Princess
Barbie can reunite with Prince Ken and be married. As each activity is
completed, one of the jewels around the mirror will glow with magical color.
Once all the jewels are brightly shining, the Prince and Princess will be wed
and can live happily ever after!
It is up to you to help Princess Barbie in this
enchanting adventure to finish the wedding preparations in time! There is so
much to do! You have to invite the guests and there are so many! There is a
wedding cake to make and decorate! What's next? Oh, yes, how can you have a
wedding without music? Time to check on the musicians! Hustle! Bustle! Don't
forget that you have to design the perfect wedding dress for Princess Barbie!

click on the Butterfly Fairy. She is always ready to show you the next step or
to explain what you need to do to complete an activity. The Butterfly Fairy can
lead you through all the preparations, one by one! Or you can choose each
activity on your own by selecting a jewel on the Magic Mirror.

Princess Bride Barbie CD-ROM has been presented
for ages 4 and up. Mattel Interactive has produced this software for both PC and
MAC users. Minimum System Requirements for PC include: Windows 95/98, Pentium
166MHz processor or faster, 8X CD-ROM drive or faster, 32MB RAM, 55MB Hard Disk
Space, 16-bit DirectX compatible sound card, SVGA color monitor, 16-bit DirectX
compatible video card with 640X480 resolution, Standard mouse and keyboard, and
Optional Inkjet or Laser Printer.
Minimum system requirements for MAC include:
Power PC/150MHz processor or faster, System 8.0 or higher, 8X CD-ROM drive or
faster, 32MB RAM with 24MB available*, 60MB available disk space, Thousands of
colors or higher video card, Color monitor, Built-in sound or Sound Manager 3.1
compatible sound card and speakers, standard mouse and keyboard, and Optional
Apple or 100% Apple compatible Inkjet or Laser printer. (*Please note that you
may need to adjust your virtual memory to 64MB if you don't have enough built-in
memory.)
Installation is quick and easy, especially with
Auto Run capabilities.
Gameplay: 8. The navigation is, for the
most part, good. There were some slight delays in moving from one area to
another.
Graphics: 9.5. Barbie As Princess Bride is
filled with bright, vivid colors which blend quite nicely with the superb
graphics and animation!
Sound: 9.5. Mattel Interactive did a
superb job in combining a lovely music selection with terrific sound effects!
There is, indeed, a magical fairy tale quality to the sound on this software.
Difficulty: 3. Basic mouse clicks and
keyboard usage are all that is needed to use this software. Those young 4 year
olds will be able to navigate through the adventure with minimal help. Older
children who are into anything that has to do with Barbie will enjoy the game,
but I'm sure they will skip over some of the easier areas after doing them a few
times.
Concept: 7.5. Featuring Barbie in the
starring role of a magical fairy tale is a cute idea that is sure to please
Barbie fans everywhere. Although it is not a learning software, Barbie As
Princess Bride CD-ROM does invite imaginative thinking and problem solving.
Overall: 8. This is definitely an
appealing software product for any girl who loves Barbie, but I think younger
girls will want to replay it all the way through more often than older girls
will. This is simply because some of the activities will prove to be too easy
for older girls. The printing capabilities are a definite plus as the printed
pages can be used for so many different things.

five, a thumb's up and the Grandma's Seal of Approval!
