Did you know that American Sign Language is the third most used and fastest growing language in the United States? ASL For Kids is a wonderful
teaching software that provides an easy and fun way for even the youngest computer user to learn early educational skills and basic ASL vocabulary.
Paws the Dog will lead your child through five fun learning stories. After each story, your child can play three games that reinforce the lessons they
have just learned. This learning software is easy to use with point and click mouse usage and is presented in a very
straightforward manner. The graphics are quite simple and utilize mainly primary colors that grasp the
attention of younger children. The sound is simplified as well, as the software is geared toward ages 3 and up.
I can see ASL For Kids being used by both children who are hearing impaired and those who are not. Offering every child the opportunity to learn a new
way to communicate broadens their horizons and gives them an edge in the future that awaits them. This software has been developed and child tested
by the Institute for Disabilities Research and Training.
Minimum system requirements for IBM PCs or compatibles include: Pentium 166 MHz or better, 32 MB RAM, 10 MB free hard disk space, CD-ROM Drive,
Color SVGA Monitor, Windows 95/98/NT, Windows compatible sound card and mouse.
ASL For Kids does not have auto run capabilities and will need to be installed using Run from your start menu. There is an installation wizard
which comes up after you access the software from the start menu.
Installation is fairly simple and quick.
GAMEPLAY: 7. The software utilizes a point and click mouse action.
GRAPHICS: 5. The graphics are simplified and geared toward ages 3 and up.
SOUND: 5. The sound is also simplified.
DIFFICULTY: 5. This software is very easy to use.
CONCEPT: 8. I applaud any software that will teach children a useable
tool!
OVERALL: 7. I recommend ASL For Kids to every parent or grandparent who
wants to broaden the horizons for children.
